MIRPURKHAS Nov 02: The 4th international conference on Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development-2016 (EESD’2016) at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, Sindh officially commenced today. Mr. Syed Wamiq Bokhari, Managing Director and CEO, Pakistan Petroleum Limitedwas the chief guest of the ceremony.
Prof. Dr. Corrado Clini (Former Minister for Environment Land & Sea, Italy) and Engineer Amjad Ali Awan, CEO, Alternative Energy Development Board, Pakistan were the guest of honours. Dr. Jonathan Daniel Nixon, University of Coventry, UK, Prof. Dr. Muhammad AslamUqaili, Vice Chancellor, MUET, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Choudhery, Deputy Project Director, US−Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS−W) at MUET, Prof. Dr. Khanji Harijan, Chairman, EESD’2016 conference, and Dr. Pervez HameedShaikh, Secretary, EESD’2016 conference and other dignitaries attended the inaugural ceremony.
VC, MUET, Dr. Uqaili welcomed all the delegates by introducing the aims and objectives of the conference and encouraged all the delegates for their fruitful participation in all the plenary and technical sessions.
Dr. Khanji gave overview of the conference. He notified to audience that, EESD’2016 conference attracted more than 300 abstracts and out of which only 120 were accepted by national and international peer-review process.
CEO, PPL, Mr. Bokhari discussed the current energy situation of Pakistan and stressed on the need of integrated long term energy planning in Pakistan. CEO, AEDB, Mr. Awan presented the current status of alternative energy development in Pakistan.
Dr. Nixon presented the global perspective of EESD’2016 conference. DPD, USPCAS-E, Dr. Choudhery deliberated on water related sustainable development goals and water scarcity in Pakistan. Finally, Dr. Shaikh thanked all the dignitaries, delegates, sponsors, organizing team for their efforts in organizing this event.
Delegates from the various countries (United Kingdom, Italy, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan) and national organizations and research universities from Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhua are participating in the conference.
