TANDO MUHAMMAD KHAN Mar. 07: The District Representative of NPIW Employees Welfare Association Engr. Tariq Ali Dehraj has said that hundreds of contractual employees of NPIW, National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses, are still waiting for their job regularization. Despite the bill regarding regularization moved by Pakistan People’s Party has also been passed in Sindh Assembly back in 2013 and correspondingly the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has also given a verdict in favour of employees on April 30, 2014.
Engr. Tariq Ali Dehraj further said that The Pakistan Government launched a programme in the agriculture sector, the National Programme for Improvement of the Watercourses in the Year 2005, a project for lining of the watercourses all over Pakistan. The employees were appointed by the government of Sindh after qualifying the Bahria University Test on merit basis
The figures of the improvement of watercourses show that the employees have done brilliant and timely work. Several times the employees have staged their protests in front of Karachi press club and ended each time their protest on assurance given by the government but the employees are still on contract basis after completing ten years of their services.
