Zardari demands Nawaz’s resignation following Panama verdict

ISLAMABAD: Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“I salute the judges who declared Prime Minister Sharif’s ineligible to rule,” Zardari said.

He said that prime minister should step down on ethical basis.

Zardari said, “I know PM Sharif well. He will not resign till the end.”

The former Pakistani president stated that he cannot understand why Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leaders are distributing sweets following the judgment of the Panama Case.

He also termed Imran Khan as an “inexperienced politician”.

“PM Sharif capitalized on Imran Khan’s theatrics,” Zardari stated.

It should be noted Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to appear before a joint investigation team which will be formed to probe the Panama Papers scandal.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and Justice Gulzar Ahmad, in their dissenting notes, wrote that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was not eligible to be premier as he was not Sadiq and Ameen. The rest of the bench called for additional investigation of the accusations.
