1,100 students awarded degrees at SSUET convocation

KARACHI Mar. 16I: Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology Chancellor Engr Muhammad Adil Usman has said that Sir Syed University has undertaken concerted efforts and turned out over 13,000 graduates, so far, who are capable to meet the demand of modern world. Engineers of this university hold responsible positions in reputed national, multinational organizations both within Pakistan and abroad.
He was addressing the SSUET graduates at the university’s 18th Convocation that was held to commemorate academic accomplishments of its students at the Expo Centre Karachi in which some 1100 students from the disciplines of Computer, Electronics, Civil, Telecommunication and Bio-Medical Engineering and Computer Science besides those having completed their Master’s were awarded degrees.
Speaking on the auspicious occasion, he said, “Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology is a progressive institution that looks forward to meet the requirements of prudent technical education and practices. For this purpose, the curriculum of engineering is regularly reviewed, upgraded and improved. Simultaneously, new disciplines are periodically added.”
Extending his congratulations to the degree recipients and their parents Engr. Muhammad Adil Usman said, “I am sure the young graduates would adopt high values of professional ethics and focus attention to build the nation and effectively exploit our natural resources.”
He advised graduates to always pursue a positive mode and think in terms of solutions. Each and every problem should be taken as a challenge and they must strive for solution in real earnest with confidence and determination. “Our country is going through a critical phase, having a list of sufferings, and we have great expectations and confidence that our young engineers would rise to the occasion and cope with challenges ahead,” Chancellor Engr Adil Usman added.
Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology was established with a view to impart the youth with most modern knowledge in engineering & technology by the best available human and material resources and assigns a high priority to tolerance, human values, progress, innovative ideas and research in pursuit to bring a breakthrough in technology.
Addressing the ceremony Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syed Jawaid Hasan Rizvi said that Sir Syed University has been making efforts to increase seats and introduce new technologies. Last year, three new technologies namely Software Engineering, Bio-informatics and Architecture were introduced. This year we have started Electrical Engineering Department in the backdrop of the fact that Pakistan is facing electric power crises affecting all sectors of the economy and the various segments of the society. Now the University imparts education of BS Programme in ten disciplines and six disciplines offer Master’s program, while the PhD Programme facilities are currently available in Computer and Electronic Engineering.
He informed that the University is pioneer in introducing Biomedical Engineering Department and Biomedical Engineers turned out by SSUET are playing a significant role in the maintenance of the equipment in the hospitals.
Prof Dr. Syed Jawaid Hasan Rizvi said Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, (AMUOBA) who is the sponsor and legacy of Aligarh Spirit, established Sir Syed University in 1994 that goes a long way to consolidate socio-economic and technological development of Pakistan. The enrolment in the university has already crossed 21,000 and we have produced more than 13,000 graduates since 1998. Earlier, in his welcome address, Registrar Syed Abrar Ali congratulated students and their parents, and wished them a prosperous future. He said that higher education has now become a tool of economic growth.
Students were also honoured with gold, silver and bronze medals for their outstanding achievements in their academic career. Amber Ashraf of Computer Engineering, Muhammad Obaid Ashraf of Electronic Engineering, Warda Ali Shah of Telecommunication Engineering, Anum Wasim Biomedical Engineering, Muhammad Aqeel Ahmed of Civil Engineering and Muhammad Ahsan Shaikh of Computer Science received gold medals for securing 1st position.
Recipients of silver medals for securing second position included Ariba Aslam of Computer Engineerin, Muhammad Hassan Bashir of Electronic Engineering, Sadia Parveen of Telecommunication Engineering, Heena of Biomedical Engineering, Kashan Khan of Civil Engineering and Rabia Khan of Computer Science.
Muhammad Usman Ghani of Computer Engineering, Haider Ali of Electronic Engineering, Hira Tariq of Telecommunication Engineering, Maleeha Mehboob of Biomedical Engineering, Javeria Saleem of Civil Engineering and Yasir Ali of Computer Science were awarded bronze medals for standing 3rd position.
